About Me
BIO
Nicholas D. Lamb is an independent filmmaker whose filmic and literary works have challenged audiences across the globe. Minted with a BA in Radio-TV-Film and an MFA in Screenwriting, Nicholas set out to teach cinema while continuing his creative practice. After years of working in K-12 schools, yearly castings as a performer, and freelance work in production and post-production positions, he finally reached his goal of working in higher education in the turbulent year of 2020. Currently a Lecturer in Digital Media at California State University, Bakersfield, he enjoys teaching as much as conducting research and producing films.
Director's Statement
I self-published the stage play "A Bipolar Philosophy" in the year 2011 with the intent of someday adapting it for film. Unfortunately, I could not find a way to accomplish that without a significant financial setback to my own finances. I shelved the adaptation project, hoping that one day I could eventually produce it independently. In 2020, that opportunity presented itself in an unconventional way, a global pandemic. The sudden prevalence of live streamed media due to the COVID-19 lockdown made my talking head play's setup more believable. Zoom suddenly became a cost effective and appropriate medium to establish the film's story world. It also allowed me to address the mental health impact of the lockdown, produce a film safely under quarantine, and forced me to reevaluate the play's narrative structure. Ultimately, much work went into cutting the hour long play into 14 minutes, but I feel that has made it unique from its source material, a deeply personal narrative ten years waiting to be retold.
