About Me
When I was 11, I was given a super-8 camera. I didn’t know how to operate it and felt intimidated by this sophisticated object. But it was mine and not my brother’s. I began by using the camera as a way to play tricks, do magic, make something appear and disappear. It was years later when I first saw the films of Maya Deren and Jane Campion that I began to see how I could use my love of the camera’s visual tricks to create narratives, be they experimental or more formal. Over the years I've trained in a blend of disciplines to assist me as I create novel work across all platforms, unified by a uniquely female vision.
As a filmmaker, my work is held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and in the Feminist Art Base at the Brooklyn Museum. My award-winning films have toured internationally, including screenings at the Guggenheim and Pecci Museums. I have received artist residencies to Yaddo, VCCA, and the Wexner Center for the Arts. I hold an M.F.A. in Screenwriting from UCLA and a B.A. inCreative Writing from Oberlin College. I have been the recipient of UCLA's Director’s Spotlight Award and a MellonGrant.
